The 2027 application will open Monday, November 9, 2026, and will close Sunday, January 3, 2027.
Application decisions will be released on a rolling basis beginning the week of February 21, 2027. Applicants should allow until Friday, March 12, 2027, for notifications to be issued.
Welcome to the McCollough Institute for Pre-Medical Scholars’ online application.
The McCollough Institute for Pre-Medical Scholars Program is open to The University of Alabama incoming first-year students whose primary major is in the Barefield College of Arts & Science. To find all applicable majors review the UA catalog for more information.
Requirements for Incoming Students
To qualify, interested students must have quantifiable academic components such as an ACT score of 32-36 or SAT score of 1420-1600, and a 3.50+ GPA. These scores are required to apply for the program. Non-academic components include leadership experience, volunteer experience, extracurricular activities, employment, and non-academic honors.
To complete the McCollough Scholars application, be prepared to enter your GPA, ACT/SAT scores, upload a 1 to 2-minute video presentation (include face and voice), complete a short essay on required topic (490 to 500 word), and submit two letters of recommendation.
Applicants must provide two references: one academic and one non-academic. The academic reference must be a teacher of English, history, social studies, a language, philosophy, or religion. The non-academic reference must be an adult outside the applicant’s family who knows the applicant well. References must fill out the recommendation form and submit a recommendation letter. Each reference will receive a brief form by email. Applicants are responsible for contacting their references and ensuring they complete the forms, as the program will not request them on the applicant’s behalf.
Reminder: Chosen applicants must be in the Barefield College of Arts and Science. They must be able to live on campus with other selected McCollough students during the first year.

For priority consideration for admission into the 2027-2028 program year, apply by Sunday, January 3, 2027.
