Habitat for Humanity Build Day
“We had a great time this weekend volunteering with Habitat for Humanity! Scholars painted the siding of the house with three coats of gray paint. Over the course of the day, we painted the entire exterior of the house and made strides towards completion. It was rewarding to see significant progress made on this house and the neighboring houses, some of which we worked on last year. According to social determinants of health, housing status is a significant predictor of […]

Hands of McCollough March Event
“In March, several McCollough scholars traveled an hour south of campus to Marion, Alabama to serve with Project Horseshoe Farm. We prepared their community garden for spring planting by weeding and filling the beds with soil/fertilizer. Marion is a semi-food desert, so fresh produce is often hard to come by. Project Horseshoe Farm provides produce for many community members and teaches them how to use their produce in their meals. We look forward to hosting more events with Project Horseshoe Farm […]
Habitat for Humanity
“We had a great time this weekend volunteering with Habitat for Humanity! Scholars painted the siding and window frames, cut wood planks with power tools, used staple and nail guns to attach the soffit, and applied wood filler to nail holes. Over the course of the day, we painted a large section of the house’s exterior and finished attaching the soffit to the roof. According to social determinants of health, housing status is a significant predictor of overall health and […]
